I have prepared a little story as an example of how religion blinds people and makes them ignorant. This story is personal for me. Please enjoy. *************** The scene is set at a hospital, a waiting area for the family of patients. The patient in question is a woman giving birth today, and due to genetic flaws and a disease, it is likely she will die in labor or during birth. Because of this, only the husband is allowed to be in the room with the wife, and only as an observer, because a doctor and nurses are furiously attempting to save the woman's life. The nervous, hopeful man paces at the edge of the room, wringing his hands and praying audibly for a deity to save his wife and new child. The couple's other child, a young boy of 6 or 7, sits silently with his grandparents, both elderly folks solemly praying in unison for the woman and soon-to-be born child. There to show support are various other family members, all of which are engaged in various prayer rituals. In the two short hours before the baby is born, the woman has many expected complications, and both doctors and nurses furiously scamper about the room, using over a dozen specific chemicals and medications to keep the woman alive while her weak, diseased body wishes to let the baby die for self preservation. Beating the 20 to 1 odds of death or major complication, the woman barely lives and the baby is apparently healthy, but taken away to a different room for careful examination and monitoring. The doctor informs the crying husband of all the procedures, chemicals, and medications used to save the woman and baby, but explains that it is highly likely something will be wrong with the baby due to the mother's disease and genetic problems, so the baby needs to be checked out while the mother rests. The doctor encourages the man to go be with his family and let the wife rest under her sedation. Bursting forth from the swinging doors, the man proclaims "It's a MIRACLE!" to his family and child, arms raised up in a strange salute to an imaginary creature.
